Before you start…
Phone a friend
Acorn Cottage is a collaborative 2-player game. You’ll be looking at different screens, so choose who you’re going to play with and decide how you’re going to communicate during the game.
Phone? Zoom? Skype? Google Hangouts? www.thepubhub.me? Anything that keeps you talking while you play. Make sure to tell your partner everything you can see! Keep talking!
If you need to share your screen at any point that’s fine, but most people should manage with voice. And if you want to play alone, that’s fine too. Just open two tabs and play as both characters.
Grab the essentials
There’s nothing in Acorn Cottage that requires ultra-mind-bending spatial awareness, but a pen and paper will definitely make your life easier. Some of you might want scissors too, but you should manage without. And please play on a desktop or laptop for the best playing experience.
If you get stuck… use a hint!
If you really don’t know how to progress, Professor Acorn has left you hints in the white section at bottom of some screens. Hints are numbered so make sure to use them in the correct order to avoid unnecessary spoilers. You won’t have all of the numbers so you’ll have to rely on your partner for the rest. Just click on a hint if you need to use it, but obviously using fewer hints is better! Hints look like this…
Hints:
Use the back button
If you put in the wrong password and need to try again, just press the ‘back’ button on your browser and have another go.
Win!
The game doesn’t have an in-built timer, but you are free to set your own timer to see how you do against the banana-rankings at the end. The game starts when you pick your characters and finishes when you re-enter your teamname. If you do want an official time, then please get in touch with your memorable teamname and when you played and we will be happy to send it to you.
